The countdown to the biggest tech battle of the year is underway, and the competitors on both sides are gearing up for a fight to the death. I’m talking of course about Apple and Samsung, and I don’t mean in courtrooms the world over – the less said about those petty squabbles the better.
I mean a battle where it really counts – two great devices going head-to-head for global tech supremacy. We’ve already seen one, the Galaxy S3, so all that’s left is for the next-gen iPhone to step into the ring.
The upcoming iPhone is set to be one of Apple’s most successful, and that’s really saying something. I’ve never been what you’d call an Apple fanboy, but if the rumours turn out to be true then I may just be switching my stern Android allegiance.
Samsung, for its part, will not be giving up the fight easily, as a number of new features are rumoured for its flagship device. Whether they’ll be enough to put a dent in the iPhone juggernaut, I’m not sure, but they are very exciting nonetheless.
First up, reports are suggesting that we’ll see an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean by the end of the year – a very exciting revelation. Software tests are said to have already been carried out on the S3, and now Samsung is just waiting for the OK from Google before rolling out the new and improved OS.
We’re also set to get wireless charging on the S3 by the end of next month, something that I can’t see Apple devices doing any time soon. The S3’s wireless charging capabilities have been there from the start, but got a bit lost in the furore of the device’s release. But wireless charging firm Zens has announced an S3-specific charging device, which will be out in September.
Hype is starting to build around the next-gen iPhone, and will reach boiling point in the coming weeks and months, before exploding in a flurry of sales upon the device’s release. Samsung is sure to be nervous, but it has the best possible fighter in the excellent S3. Let battle commence!
